A. Le Coq Moonsund Regatta arrived in Pärnu | 20 Jul 19, piret.salmistu

The longest race took the Moonsund Regatta from Roomassaare to Pärnu. The first boats crossed the finish line at sunset, but most yachts came in during the night.

Evelyn III, second overall, was the leg winner in group ORC II, after having fought a true battle with Jazz (third overall) and Adele (fourth overall). Kristen Pugi from Evelyn III: “In general windlessness we managed to catch some wind near the coast and this gave us some headway.” Kristen Pugi was very impressed by his team, especially the three guys still in their teens – Keith Luur at the helm, Joosep Laus and Karl Lember.

Hando Sutter, skipper of Berta, the winner in ESTLYS I, put their success down to correct strategy and determination: “We looked at the wind forecast, agreed on a strategy and held on to it. We sailed out towards Ruhnu to find some wind and we succeeded in our quest. We managed to sail in the wind the entire race and when the competitors had to sit in complete calm for nearly two hours, we sailed ahead.”

ESTLYS III race winner skipper Rene Safin from Mary Lou admitted they had to take fast decisions in looming windlessness: “We looked for any indication of wind and went as close to the shore as possible. We sailed from one ripple to the other while the others were sitting still.”

Fortunately, windlessness impeded the boats only until halfway. Then nice 10 m/s north winds saved the day. Everyone arrived in Pärnu bay in good crosswind.

This time Folkboot winner was Linda, skippered by Rimo Timm, who caught wind before the rest of the boats in the group.
